c.1955 Nomura, New York Central Electric Locomotive in Original Box

Awesome embossed tin litho friction driven New York Central "Electric" Locomotive complete with original box. Never played with in near mint+ condition. Scarce toy, it represents an electric locomotive, but is not actually battery operated. A metal housed friction motor is located between one pair of its wheels.

A combination of extensive embossing and extremely well detailed lithography resulted in the production of this unusual toy. Most attractive is the contrast between the soft pastel colors of the car set against the robotic silver and black undercarriage. The turning wheels also produce a nicely tinkling internal bell sound as it moves.

The orange frames around the windows with four lower vents beneath them, and the yellow tanks located midway underneath the car are all raised embossed. Two chrome plated metal railings on each end, plus a pair of hinged, black electric terminals on the roof all add to the great look of the toy. The wheels are solid rubber with embossed spokes and rims. "New York Central" was lithoed on the front and rear edges of the roof between the two black terminals.

The full color box features a terrific illustration of the locomotive passing under the electric guide wires which provide its power. The background is a western style theme with low plains and a red rock mesa.
